Proud to support Scottish music

Since our inception in 1950, charity has been at the heart of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Contribution sits as a core value of our Organisation and it is our goal to make significant contributions, both societal and financial that focus on the greater good. Whether we’re donating to Scottish arts charities or working with outreach programmes in our local area, it’s our aim to inspire the next generation of trad performers.

Our audience may be unaware, but by purchasing a ticket for our Show, they enable us to continue our charitable support. To date, we have donated over £12.5 million to UK based military and arts charities and aim to continue doing so for years to come.

Today, our friends at the Edinburgh International Festival went on sale for 2024. In line with this, we’re excited to promote a number of Celtic performances at the Hub that we are proud to support. From contemporary twists on traditional music to education on culture, these talented groups, show the versatility within the Scottish trad scene.

Skilled and imaginative, this contemporary group unites traditions of the Highland and Islands with their innovative approach to trad music.

With the release of their latest studio album, “Fàs”, in 2022, Breabach solidified their position as one of Scotland's foremost folk acts, earning the prestigious title of 'Folk Band of the Year' at the Scots Trad Music Awards. Their musical portfolio includes projects with talents ranging from BAFTA award-winning animator Cat Bruce to indigenous Australasian artists Moana & The Tribe, showcasing their versatility and willingness to explore new musical territories.

When asked about this year’s support Breabach said;

“A big thank you to The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for supporting our gig. They do a lot of great work and it’s great to get such a big festival to support our music.”

Based in Dingwall, Fèis Rois aim to give young people and lifelong learners the opportunity to experience and engage with traditional music and Gaelic culture in ways that support developing social skills and reaching potential. They are widely recognised as national leaders in the arts, particularly musical education.

This year, they celebrate the 25th anniversary of their Ceilidh Trail, a development programme for young Scottish musicians. To mark the occasion, they have brought together 14 musicians: both emerging musicians from their original and newly established inclusive series and established artists who participated in the Ceilidh Trail in their youth.

Multi-award-winning folk supergroup Mànran have been at the heart of the Scottish traditional music scene for over a decade. The seven-piece band has brought their dynamic, boundary-pushing sound to over 30 countries.

The band combine vocals in Gaelic and English with a mix of traditional and modern instruments, including guitar, accordion, fiddle, flute and drums. As well as the great Highland bagpipe, Mànran also plays on the Uilleann pipes: the national bagpipe of Ireland which sounds softer compared to other variations of the instrument.
